The Alphabet

This Alphabet has been developed to support children who are finding it difficult to link letters and sounds.

  • It ensures letter forms are non-reversible and visually dissimilar.

  • It ensures that letters that are visually or phonologically similar have dissimilar picture, gesture and colour associations.

  • It uses picture and gesture cues to support memory, with integrated colour, spatial and temporal differences.

  • It uses a fade out system to slowly withdraw support in response to individual learning patterns.

Amazing Alphabet Printables

Our sound cards can be printed out as a complete set here, or individually (below) as each new letter or sound is introduced.

Each letter also links with an action, shown in the gesture videos. By pairing letters with pictures and actions the pairing between letter formation and sound is no longer arbitrary.

Alphabet picture cards can be used to create a fun and effective learning environment and make teaching resources.

Individual sets of cards can be used to ‘fade out’ from pictures to letters, tracking individual progress step by step.
